Going on a Road Trip

A Social Story to Help Prepare for Something New

$2.99

Help your little one prepare for their first road trip (or second or third.) Story includes real photographs to help your child learn what to expect before and during travel. Details include defining a road trip, staying in a carseat for a long time, making short stops, and more!

Our best tips for surviving (and perhaps even enjoying?) a road trip with your kids.🚘

1️⃣Prep: Make sure your kid (especially young ones) know what to expect. They’ll stay buckled, stops will be limited, it’s okay to feel bored, etc.

2️⃣Brainstorm interactive parent/kid ways to pass the time, and have your kids help create a listt. The alphabet game, counting car colors, finding patterns in passing cars, travel bingo, sing-a-longs, sound games, I-spy-inside-the-car, guess-that-animal, stories on CD - there are SO MANY possibilities.

3️⃣Add kid-independent activities, too: looking at books, water paints, drawing, favorite toys.

4️⃣Pack an Hour Bag- a surprise goodie bag with novel snacks (in addition to the usual snacks), simple arts and crafts that can be done independently, and anything else you know will appeal to your kids. Allow kids to pull something out of the bag every hour of the road trip to help mark the passing time.

5️⃣Plan for some quiet time, too.

6️⃣Use the screentime option as the final rounding out of several hours of travel time. Set a timer or use something with a definite ending (like a movie). After the allotted time, start the cycle over again with parent/kid games. Your kids can never get enough of this (until they become teens, but that’s another Prepper altogether.)

⭐️Our Prepper Story, Going on a Road Trip, combines all the road trip prep in one source.
